Accolta favorevolmente nel resto del paese, la proposta del presidente federale Gravina di intitolare lo stadio Olimpico a Paolo Rossi è stata bocciata dalle tifoserie di Lazio e Roma.
Esclusa la tifoseria vicentina, nessuna fra quelle che hanno avuto Paolo Rossi in squadra lo identificherebbe come un calciatore caratterizzante l’identità locale al punto da intitolargli l’impianto di gioco.
Fin qui gli è stato intitolato lo stadio di Bucine, la cittadina in cui viveva prima di morire. Anche a Prato, sua città natale, indugiano a cambiare il nome del Lungobisenzio.
